Activity Planning (with some help from the AC)

Are you interested in planning a fun activity for your troop? Planning an overnight or weekend trip? Going camping?? See below for some steps to help make the paperwork portion super easy! Any questions, please contact su610ac@gmail.com

Planning a troop activity? Great! Here are some links to get you started....

1. Research your activity: Visit the Safety Activities Matrix. This lists all the activities permitted and not permitted. Be sure to read the Safety Activities Checkpoints for the activity you're planning.

2. Complete required training: Visit the Training site, to see what training you may need to take for an activity.

> "Getting Started With Your Troop" (online) and "Intro to Girl Scouts" (in-person): both are required training for *at least one* person in your troop (ideally, leaders & co-leaders), immediately after starting a troop. (Under: "For New Leaders")

> "Basic Overnights" (online): required for any overnight outing. (Under: "Outdoor Training")

> "First Aid / CPR": at least one adult must be trained. (Under: "First Aid / Lifeguard Training"). You can upload your certification here.

> "Let's Camp"/"Let's Have a Campfire"/"Let's Cook-out"/"Let's Tent": This is the Outdoor Progression for introducing your girls to the outdoors. I always recommend that an adult in the troop take this entire series (which is super-informative and engaging, even for experienced campers!) as soon as possible, so that you don't have to have plans held up while trying to finish your training. Your Camp Leader can be different from your Troop Leader! (Under: "Outdoor Training")

"Troop Tripping": Required for any trip that is a) out of state, b) via airplane, or c) lasts 3 or more nights. This includes San Francisco bridging! Must be taken at least 3 months prior to travel. (Under: "Trips & Travel Training")

3. Plan for safety: Here's a link to the "Safety" chapter in Volunteer Essentials. It has a list of resources you'll want to review for your activity. Specifically:

> Driving: Are parents driving? Be sure they read & fill out the Transporting Girl Scouts form.

> Safety Activities Checkpoints

> In addition: you'll need to have all parents sign the Covid Waiver (if you haven't already) and file this with your Troop paperwork.

> Here's a link to the Covid Guidelines. You'll want to review them before each activity, as they are updated.

4. Submit forms & request approval: Visit the Activity Approval site to see what forms are required, and how to submit them. Please be sure to fill out all required forms completely.

> For activities that require approval you'll need to submit: Activity Approval Form, Trip or Event Permission Form, and a Safety Management Plan.

> Do you need extra insurance for your activity? Find out with this easy flow chart!

> Please use the Portal to submit your paperwork.
